A story automation sends your saved DM when someone replies to an Instagram story and matches your trigger. There is no public reply because the conversation is already private.

Choose the stories

Story targets are only available for Instagram. One active story, next-story slot, or all-stories scope cannot use two active automations at the same time. An automation can combine posts and stories, up to 24 targets. All targets use the same matching words, DM, buttons, and interaction allowance. Only post comments receive the public reply.

Set up the reply

  1. Select the Instagram account, then choose the story or story scope.
  2. Add Specific keywords or choose Any reply. Keywords match when the response contains any saved word or phrase, ignoring capital letters. Your own replies are excluded.
  3. Write the DM and add up to three link buttons.
  4. Optionally turn on Follow Gate to ask for a follow before delivering the message.
  5. Preview the message and turn on the automation.
For example, publish a story saying “Reply menu and I’ll send it.” Save menu as the keyword and your menu link in the DM.

Story timing

An active story normally expires 24 hours after publication. Its individual target then shows Expired and stops matching new replies. Other targets keep running. Next story uses the earliest eligible story published after activation. Stories from before activation do not fill that slot. Use All stories when every new story should share the reply. Expired stories can disappear from the picker while their past activity remains visible in Replier.

Test and recover missed replies

Reply from another Instagram account and check that the DM arrives. If Follow Gate is on, test with both a follower and a non-follower. If Replier received a story message but missed the reply, check Catch up. Eligible story messages can be recovered within 24 hours of the message. The setup prompt for recent post comments does not include stories.
