If another comment-to-DM tool, such as ManyChat, is still connected to your Instagram account, Instagram can refuse some of Replier’s DMs. Turn off the other tool’s automations before you rely on Replier.

Why DMs are refused

Instagram applies two rules to every tool connected to an account:
  • One private reply per comment. A comment can receive only one DM in reply. If another tool, or you, already sent one, Replier’s DM for that comment is refused.
  • One tool per active conversation. When someone messages or taps a button sent by another tool, that tool handles the conversation. Until the person has been quiet for 24 hours, Instagram refuses Replier’s DMs in it.
Replier’s first DM for a comment is a private reply, so only the first rule applies to it. Everything sent after the person taps a button or replies, such as the saved message after an opening message or a Follow Gate, is an ordinary DM, so the second rule applies too. The same goes for steps after a button in a message flow.

What you’ll see

Open the automation’s Results. Under Recent activity, refused DMs show as skipped with the reason:
  • This comment already received a private reply: the first rule. This often happens when Catch up reaches comments the other tool already answered.
  • Another DM tool is handling this conversation: the second rule. The person usually received your opening message, tapped its button, and got nothing after it.

Switch over safely

  1. Turn off the other tool’s automations for this account, or disconnect the account from that tool. Start with automations that use the same posts or keywords as Replier.
  2. For the next 24 hours, turn off Opening message, Ask them to follow first, and Ask for email in your Replier automations. Replier then sends your saved message in its first DM, which the conversation rule doesn’t affect.
  3. After 24 hours, turn those steps back on if you use them.
A comment the other tool already answered can’t receive another automatic DM. If someone still needs your link, message them yourself from Instagram.
